I've heard other wise that the PS3 does have a scaler chip in it. Just as the 360 does. Although I do know, both consoles games are generally not really 720p or 1080p, most are below and are upscaled via the chip and or software. Depends how the developers code it. And the 360 does not do what you call "true HD". It only upscales to 1080p. Where the PS3 can out put true 1080p. Just sadly no games are "true" 1080p.

Seriously, i don't give a rat's ass if the PS3 is upscaling because of it's firmware or a chip. It does upscale and that's what counts

The 360 apparently does have a few games that are confirmed 1080p native.
I'm not sure about the hardware scaler in the ps3 but if it did, why would some games not support 1080i if there was hardware support for it?

The PS3 scales DVDs, BlueRays, PS2 and PS1 games so this means there's an upscaling software or hardware inside the box. Now, the why they decided to not automatically upscale PS3 games is a mystery. Since it doesn't make much sense we'd probably need to ask Sony...

This is incorrect HDMI 1.2 and component are both capable of 1080p. The xbox also has a hardware scaler so all games can output 1080p. I bet most 360 owners don't even know that most of the games they are playing aren't actually 1080p.
no the elite can only play up to 1080i not 1080p. 1080p is casted as true high definition with hdmi 1.2 it can only upscale to 1080i

Um...what does this have to do with the patch?

[/color] What do you call 'true' 1080p? A image that isn't upscaled via software or hardware. But a pure HD signal. "True" is the word Sony uses to sell their 1080p line. Which is why I used "".

Ah, gotcha. There are only 3 Xbox 360 games in native 1080p I believe (although that data is a getting a bit old, I doubt it's changed much). All the rest are upscaled by the hardware. Either way, both systems are pretty loose on their use of "1080p".

Yea, I think most is developers just not knowing the hardware, mostly with the PS3.

Yea, I think most is developers just not knowing the hardware, mostly with the PS3. I also don't think games NEED 1080p to look good, cause there's absolutely great looking titles for both systems. At the rate native 1080p games are being put out we won't need to worry :p

But smaller tvs, 1080p (if the tv even supports it) doesn't really matter.

Did the patch get taken down? When I start the game is doesn't say anything about a patch and trophies don't show up in the xmb.
